29 Aug. First research project—some aspect of the Great Depression (about 500 words, MLA style, at least two citations—do not cite a general reference work)

31 Aug. Work on research projects in class; homework—read about The Christians, a play by Lucas Hnath http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2015/september-web-only/lucas-hnath-christians-church-splits-hell.html You will be attending and reflecting on the play. The performances are as follows: Sept 23-24, 29-Oct 1 all performances at 7:30. A written response (250-500 words) is due on 7 Oct. You must write a personal reflection, not a summary.

2 Sept. Complete and turn in first research project; homework—print and read “I Have a Dream” speech https://www.archives.gov/press/exhibits/dream-speech.pdf; bring a hard copy of the speech to class.
