WATERCOLOR PAINTING

CLASS MEETING TIMES: 1:10-2:25 T/Th

I. Objectives

A. To develop skills in painting with watercolor

B. To create as self expression

C. To experiment with a variety of processes

D. To practice a variety of painting styles

E. To develop design and organizational skills in painting

F. To participate in a student show

II. Content

A. Preparation of watercolor paper for painting

B. Mixing of watercolor paints

C. Study and practice of a variety of watercolor techniques

D. Study and practice of a variety of styles

E. Study of the organization and content of watercolor paintings

F. Techniques in matting a finished painting

G. Effective strategies in displaying artwork

IV. Attendance policy

This is not a distance learning class. Classroom attendance and activities are a valuable part of the course and will be part of your final grade. There is no substitute for regular, sustained practice.

Cumulative absences of two weeks will be reported to the Vice-President for Student Life. Students with cumulative absences of three weeks will be reported to the Vice-President for Academic Affairs, who will, after consultation with the instructor and student, determine whether the student should be retained in class.

COURSE CALENDAR

Class will meet twice weekly for one and a half hours each session.

All students must participate in a class exhibit during November.

PORTFOLIO ASSESSMENT/GRADING METHOD

A = Twelve or more out-of-class paintings of good to excellent quality. Completion of all in-class work.

B = Eleven to ten out-of-class paintings of good to excellent quality. Completion of 90% of in class work.

C = Nine to eight out-of-class paintings of good quality. Completion of 80% of in-class work.

D = Seven out-of-class paintings of acceptable quality. Completion of 60% of in-class work.

F = ANY ONE OF THE FOLLOWING;

Less than six out-of-class paintings

Completion of less than 60% of in-class work
