The Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer is a non-profit 501©3 handling many events and services both locally and throughout the United States. They are looking for an intern interested in learning all aspects of the public relations field in the world of non-profit. The intern who fills this position should be versatile and eager to learn the various aspects of non-profit public relations/communications from top to bottom. It's essential that applicants to this position have excellent communication skills, demonstrate creativity, and understand the importance of attending to even the smallest details. Although not a paid position, the real world experience and hands-on educational value is immense.

DESCRIPTION

Duties & Responsibilities
Outline the major tasks that the intern will complete

  • Prepare public relations materials including news releases, media alerts, fact sheets and other materials.
  • Develop relationship with media to represent the foundation to its public.
  • Assist with the development and updating of media lists and other databases.
  • Assist with the social media strategy.
  • Plan, coordinate and evaluate special event for the foundation.
  • Assist with managing on-site production and clean up for events.
  • Assist with recruitment of sponsors and volunteers for events.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills and should be majoring in Public Relations
  • Strong writing skills, as well as a solid understanding of social media.
  • Only interns proficient with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications should apply.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented

We will look to accept interns again in the Spring 2021 semester. We will have these students work in-person out of our Education Advancement Center in Chattanooga. While we typically post our applications on Indeed, students are always welcome to email me directly with a resume and cover letter. We will begin interviewing for our Spring 2021 internships in mid-November and select our candidate in mid-December.
