DESCRIPTION

Duties & Responsibilities
Outline the major tasks that the intern will complete

  • Assist the Director of Publications and the Lead Student Photographer with photography needs and maintenance of Lee's Image Library. A breakdown is as listed below.
  • Assist the Lead Student Photographer in photo shoots as needed on campus, in classrooms, at special events, etc. Catalog and upload the photos as soon as possible (within 3-5 days of taking the photos).
  • Work with the Lead Student Photographer, the Director of Publications and the Vice President of University Relations with the branding initiative as mandated by the Cabinet. This may require revising branding Powerpoints, correspondence and assisting in the branding presentations throughout the campus.
  • Assist the student designers with photographic ideas when needed. The designers need to know the types of photos available. The intern will be familiar with the favored images and if they have been used multiple times in major publications. The expertise of the photographer is invaluable to the designers.
  • Assist the Lead Student Photographer with the bi-monthly report to be submitted to the Director on Wednesday afternoon.
  • Report and meet with the Director of Publications and the Lead Student Photographer on a regular basis and communicate via email or verbally as needed.
  • Assist in the coordination of special projects, including but not limited to the NSO Community Showcase, Celebration, Homecoming, Lee Day and Commencements.
  • Assist on an as needed basis with photography and design on various university publications such as the Student Handbook, advertisements, brochures, e-mail headers, business cards, flyers, etc.
  • Create and maintain a digital portfolio of photos and various publications where their photography was used during the internship.
  • Assist the Director with other special requests as needed.

Skills & Qualifications
Outline the skills the intern will need to successfully fulfill your expectations.

  • The intern must have already completed Basic Digital Photography and either be enrolled or have completed Advanced Photography.
  • The intern must have an advanced familiarity with using a camera (preferably a Canon EOS or DSLR, but a Nikon will be considered.) Point and shoot cameras and iPhone photography will not be considered at any time.
  • The intern must be familiar with shutter speeds, aperture, exposure, filter usage, lighting and composition. There will be some additional training for this, but the intern must have some basic knowledge for this position.
  • The intern will become proficient with the use of his/her camera or one provided by the office through advance hands-on experience, tutorials and mentoring.
  • The intern will become proficient in programs such as Lightroom and Photoshop.
  • The intern will experience and learn the techniques for mentorship, organization and leadership skills in the area of photography.
