Letters of Recommendation
If you are interested in having me write a letter of recommendation for you, here are the steps you should take:
- Get in touch with me as soon as you know you will need a letter from me. The more time you can give me, the better. A month is ideal, but I understand that this is not always possible. If I hear from you less than 1.5 weeks before the deadline, I cannot promise to be able to craft a letter for you in time. We’ll meet to discuss the job(s) or program(s) you are applying for. Do this before you fill out applications if possible.
- After I agree to write you a letter, get the following things to me in an email:
- A resume or CV
- Draft of application letter you are using to apply to the programs or jobs. If you don’t have one, an outline of why you are applying to the program or job.
- If you need letters sent to multiple places, a big table detailing each place a letter needs to go and what the deadline is.
- If anything happens before the deadline that you think I should include, please keep me up to date.
- After you hear back from the places you applied, please let me know how it goes.
