Lee launches first mobile application

The recent arrival of Lee University’s first mobile application gave students the ability to view information that is vital to “Lee life” directly from their smartphones.

“Our goal is to take information about Lee and push it to where you are,” Director of IT Systems Nate Tucker said.

The free mobile application, called MOX Mobile Access, became available in late spring of 2011.  It serves as the first of its kind for the university and is currently available for the iPhone, BlackBerry and Droid.

MOX Mobile Access is an extension of the Portico website, which houses a variety of information for the Lee community, from campus announcements to personal financial status.

The new application allows for easy access to some of the vital information that Portico contains, such as class schedules, campus maps, news, events and more.

Datatel, Inc., a company that specializes in supplying software to college campuses, provided the technology for the mobile app.  Datatel also provided for the recent renovation of the Portico website.

The app is only in its beginning stages.  Lee’s IT Department also plans to integrate another online learning platform, Moodle, into Portico in the coming months.

With the eventual integration of Moodle, which is mainly used to post and view specific class assignments and grades, students will have even further access to their assignments and deadlines from their smartphones via the MOX app.
